How many National Parks have you been too? The National Park Service defines “national parks” as follows: “Generally, a national park contains a variety of resources and encompasses large land or water areas to help provide adequate protection of the resources.”

The first national park in the United States (and the world) was Yellowstone National Park, established on March 1, 1872, by President Ulysses S. Grant.

I wish I would have started to count when I was younger or at least been aware of them more. Most people have been to at least one or two and probably didn't ever know it. There are 63 National Parks that are designated protected areas in the United States. Thirty states have one or more national parks, from Maine to Minnesota, from Alaska to Hawaii, and from California to Florida. However there are 433 National Park service sites.  This includes battlefields, national memorials, seashores, monuments, and more.

I remember one that I have been to, and that it is extremely hard to forget due to the magnitude and the pure beauty of it.  The Grand Canyon.  One year on a road trip my family and I took a trip out to visit my grandmother in Arizona.  I told myself that I was going to hike the Grand Canyon when I got older, or perhaps ride a horse/mule down to the bottom.  I can say that has not happened, but I read about so many people that do that.  They hike from rim to rim.

Another option to see several National Parks are to take a train trip through several of them.  They even have some hotels that you can stay in the park.  If you are ever interested in seeing Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Glacier National Park via a train let's talk.  I know thats on my bucket list.

For a long time, I didn't realize I had one in my own backyard! The Gateway Arch National Park.

I'll end the Tuesday truth on a trivia tip.. The first national park in the United States (and the world) was Yellowstone National Park, established on March 1, 1872, by President Ulysses S. Grant.

When you get a chance, get out and visit a National Park site thats close by you!  Have a great day friends!!
